Orlando, FL, Miami, FL, Myrtle Beach, SC & Washington, D.C. April 4, 2015—The office of mystery author Digger Cartwright is pleased to announce that Conversations on the Bench won 1st place in the memoir category for the Southeast region in the USA Regional Excellence Book Awards.
Mr. Cartwright issued the following statement regarding the book award for Conversations on the Bench:
“It’s an honor to have Conversations on the Bench win a USA Regional Excellence Book Award. Conversations on the Bench has always been meaningful for me. This book is based on actual people, who I met, and was inspired by actual events. It took a long time to make this book a reality, but it was well worth the time invested. The story of Sebastian Peréy is really uplifting and touching. He was a larger-than-life figure who touched many people’s lives in a positive way. Conversations on the Bench pays tribute to him by chronicling some of his life’s lessons that he shared with a very good friend and colleague through a series of conversations over the years. I’ve always been of the position that Conversations on the Bench has something for everyone from all walks of life and of all ages and all backgrounds.
My sincerest appreciation goes out to the USA Regional Excellence Book Awards and to the judges in this competition. As always, I appreciate the support of my faithful readers and all those who have enjoyed this book. Though I regret that Sebastian isn’t here to see this, his legacy lives on through Conversations on the Bench.”
Digger Cartwright’s award-winning Conversations on the Bench is an inspirational novel based on a true story. Fun-loving, friendly, garrulous and larger than life, Sebastian never met a stranger. The countless hours he and his young friend spent toiling over life and worldly problems translated into a long and lasting friendship. Playing billiards or sipping wine were more than just ways to mark time, and wherever they went, they were sure to find a comfortable bench where they could sit and talk for hours—reminiscing on old times, facing new problems, solving global economic crises, conversing about life in general and sharing wit and wisdom. Never without something to say or some lesson to share, Sebastian shared a wisdom gained through his own unique life experiences—from growing up in the segregated South to making his way in the world amidst a deep recession to searching for purpose. Conversations on the Bench is a compilation of some of Sebastian’s greatest life lessons. Filled with everything from how to negotiate a business deal to how to get the best service at a restaurant, Conversations on the Bench is not only a fitting tribute to Sebastian’s words of wisdom but a primer for life itself.
